mind - body - earth - wholeness
Holistic
I approach therapy as a collaborative journey into terrain that may be difficult to access alone. The therapeutic relationship serves as an anchor and resource on the journey, as well as the vehicle through which we are able to experience ourselves, gain crucial insight, and consciously practice new ways of relating to life. I make space for the ways we are both shaped by our social locations and cultural context, and I welcome all facets of your human nature as essential teachers in our discovery of who you are in your wholeness and full integrity. My integrative approach builds inner cohesion in concentric circles of mind, body, community, and world.
Mindful
Mindfulness is bringing awareness to one's present moment experience. Cultivating mindfulness is a way to see with compassion and clarity our patterns of thought, tension, habits, and reactions. Being in autopilot inevitably leads us down the same road to the same destination. Mindfulness is like tuning the dial on the radio and suddenly hearing information that was previously muffled by static. Awareness opens the space to make conscious choices. Simply noticing what is is the first step to releasing patterns that no longer serve us well. Mindfulness is an evidence-based instrument of stress-reduction, pain management, trauma release, and cultivating pleasure and joy.
Embodied
Body-centered psychotherapy (somatic psychotherapy) is a trauma-informed treatment supported by extensive research in neurobiology. We heal the mind through the body. Since the psyche is embedded in the entire sensate system (not just the small portion of the brain that deals with conscious thought) it is most effectively engaged through direct experience. We use mindful awareness to respectfully listen to the wisdom within, deepen connection and communication with the body, practice skills and strategies that disengage detrimental patterns and establish new neural pathways, and stabilize the integration of body-mind-spirit. Body-centered psychotherapy does not necessarily involve touch, and is effective for addressing anxiety, depression, and trauma, as well as reconfiguring unconscious holding patterns and self-limiting beliefs. I prioritize emotional regulation and safety, and work with your strengths and inner resources to empower the body's natural inclination toward wellness.
Down to Earth
Ecotherapy affirms our interconnection with the natural world. To know in our bones we are part of the web of life is a powerful antidote to the story of separation and loneliness that plagues many modern Americans. An ecological perspective expands our sense of self to include all aspects of life, and aims to restore relationships of mutual care amongst humans and the more than human world. I support people in recognizing and reclaiming their own nature and their innate belonging in the natural world. Ecotherapy can be practiced indoors, remotely, or out in nature.
